Earned Run Average! Do You Know How?

Earned run average is the most commonly used pitching statistic in the game today. Most baseball fans know what it means, but many people forget how to calculate it. It is also important to note that the formula above would change if you are in Youth Baseball and only playing 5 or 7 inning games. You would substitute either 5 or 7 for the 9 in the formula above.

Below is an example:

Nolan is a youth pitcher and they play 7 inning games. He has pitched 30 innings and given up 13 earned runs. His calculation would look like this (13x7) divided by (30).

His ERA would be: 3.03.
