JUGS Soft Toss Machine
| As a youth baseball coach and president of My-Youth-Baseball.com, I have been asked the following question numerous times: “If I had one tip that to give to any parent about their son's youth baseball career, what would it be?” Without any hesitation my answer is always Playing Catch and Batting Practice. In this article and pitching machine review, I will focus on the batting practice aspect.
The happiest player on the field is the player that just got a hit. Just look at any kids eyes after he gets on base. He is beaming with pride! Kids that can’t hit don’t stay with the sport for very long. Kids that can hit will love the sport for a long time.
My answer typically leads to another common question: “So what is the one thing you would do to teach them to hit?” Just swing the bat, a lot! When they are young, it’s pretty easy to get out in the backyard and throw wiffle balls to them. However, if you really want a long term solution, I would invest in a Jugs Soft Toss Machine. It’s pretty small and it pops the ball into the air similar to soft toss practice.
This little pitching machine will make practice time so easy. Your youth player can go to the backyard, by himself, turn it on and start hitting. This eliminates the problem of the parents not having the time, or taking the time, to practice with their kid. Below are some highlights of the JUGS Soft Toss Machine:
- It holds about a dozen baseballs.
- It’s appropriate for any age group.
- I particularly like it for younger baseball players because it really helps develop hand/eye coordination and timing.
- It is, however, appropriate for high school players as well. Just go to any tournament and you will see EVERY team practicing their hitting utilizing the soft toss drill.
- You have the option to buy it with or without a remote control. I would recommend purchasing it with the remote.
So, if I had just one thing I was going to do to help my son's baseball career, it would be to buy a hitting net, buy a Jugs Soft Toss Machine, and have him practice hitting for 20 minutes at least every other day.
