Total Bases! Do You Know How?
**Number of (Singles+[2xDoubles]+[3xTriples]+[4xHome Runs])**When calculating total bases, you place a weight on each base hit. On the other hand, if you are calculating batting average, each hit counts as one. It is easy to understand and easy to compute the total number of bases a player is responsible for. Below is an example: Nolan has 90 hits during the season. He has 14 doubles, five triples and 11 home runs. After calculating his extra base hits, you will know that he had 60 singles during the year. If you calculate Nolan's stats correctly, you will see that he has: 147 TB's He must be a pretty good player!
