Purchasing the "Right" Youth Baseball Gloves

"M.Y.B. Has Made It Simple To Purchase The Right Glove!"

Selecting youth Baseball Gloves shouldn't be difficult, but sometimes it is a bit confusing. The purpose of this page is to simplify things for you when purchasing a baseball glove. Below are some things to think about.

What Position Is The Glove For?

One of the most important factors to consider when choosing a baseball glove is the position of the player. Baseball glovesthat are made for specific positions have certain features to help the player perform well. If you will be playing multiple positions, you should either choose a Baseball Gloves for the position you will be playing most often or choose a utility glove.

A catcher’s mitt is a bigger glove that is reinforced with more padding than most. It is reinforced to withstand heavy use and to help reduce the sting from the pitcher throwing high velocity pitches. Pitchers generally choose a glove with closed webbing so they can hide the ball from batters.

Baseball Gloves made for first basemen are also larger and slightly padded since these players spend much of the game catching balls thrown from teammates. These gloves are longer in order to help the player field throws with a bit more ease.

Middle infielders use smaller baseball gloves with shallow pockets so the fielder can easily scoop up grounders and quickly pull the ball out of the glove to throw it. Outfielders generally prefer baseball gloves which are larger and longer than infielder gloves to enable them to catch high-flying balls easily.

The Feel Of the Glove

Another factor in choosing a Baseball Gloves is how the glove feels to the player. If a glove feels uncomfortable in the store, it will probably feel uncomfortable even after you break it in.

When you try on the baseball glove, it should feel fairly snug when adjusted to your hand. Find a glove which opens and closes quickly and easily, and is light enough for you to control without difficulty.

Size of the Glove

Youth baseball gloves come in a range of sizes. For players aged fourteen to adult, outfielders will need 12 to 13 inch gloves with deeper pockets and infielders should look for 10 3/4 to 12 inch gloves with shallower pockets.

Baseball Gloves also come in sizes made specifically for kids. Youth baseball gloves should be chosen very carefully. You probably don't want to buy a child a big glove he or she can “grow into.” Big gloves do not give them the control they need to succeed in the game.

Budget

Baseball Gloves come in a range of prices from $10 for basis to over $200 for high quality gloves from manufacturers such as Nike, Nokona, Wilson, and Rawlings. Quality baseball gloves do cost more, but will likely last longer. If you expect to get heavy use out of your baseball glove, it may be less expensive in the long run to invest in a durable, high quality glove which will last for many years.

Summary

In summary, just use common sense when purchasing a glove. Buy a youth baseball glove that fits, feels good and fits into your budget knowing that higher quality gloves will last longer. Below are some links to manufacturers of gloves. You will find some gloves for sale, but be sure to click on the gloves to get more information. You may find a review or someone recommending a different you baseball glove. Check them all out and, when you are ready, purchase your glove!

Good luck!
